Banbury Young Homeless Project
Whilst known as an organisation helping homeless young people, we are in fact a charity supporting all young people aged 13 to 25 (and often their families) in Banbury, Bicester, Brackley, Chipping Norton and the surrounding areas. We offer services in three core areas supporting between 200 and 300 young people annually:
Health and Wellbeing
BYHP offers free Counselling and Family Mediation sessions. Referrals can be made online via our website. The team runs a Peer Support Group offering a hot, home cooked meal, every Wednesday evening to its service users.
BYHP runs a CAMHS project working with children and young people who, it is deemed, would benefit from some light-touch Mental Health intervention.
BYHP delivers the Mental Wealth Academy service for 18 to 25 year olds, offering one to one focused interventions, using evidence based therapies, emotional literacy and self-management tools.
Training and Employability
Back on Track, aims to transform the lives of young people aged 15-17 who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET.
Unlocking Potential for Oxfordshire helps young people aged 17-19 who are NEET to discover their potential. Through 1-2-1 mentoring and coaching young people will quickly develop self-confidence, self-esteem, work readiness and employability.
Housing and Homelessness Advice
Although we aren’t able to offer accommodation, we can help by signposting young people to the right organisation to get them on the housing pathway. We can help them fill forms and make use of the phones. Before emergency accommodation is given, young people have to be verified as street sleeping and so we can provide them with a tent, sleeping bag and access to food whilst they are waiting for this to happen.
BYHP provides a Foodbank to its service users and their families whenever they are in need.
We are a local charity committed to promoting the welfare of families. Our support is focused on families with at least one child under the age of 5 years and we are dedicated to helping families who are feeling generally overwhelmed and exhausted. All parents need some help, friendship and support during the early years when children are young, particularly if your family is going through difficult times. We recruit and train volunteers who support a family weekly, providing non-judgemental, just compassionate and confidential emotional support and practical help.
